ALPHA AND BETA

Preparation

Your brain waves are rapid and called BETA when you are wide awake and solidly in touch with the physical world.

 

As you relax and use your imagination, your awareness of the physical world drifts away and the frequency of the waves slow and move toward ALPHA.

 

Much creative work is done toward the ALPHA end of the scale, like when you play the piano, paint a rose, or formulate a new theory.  Best go BETA when you evaluate your piano playing, painting, and theory.

Look around the room, listen to the sounds around you, feel your body.

Place yourself solidly in the here and now.

 

When solidly in the physical world,

SAY the word BETA in your mind or out loud.

Repeat a few times to get a strong association.

 

If your preferred modality is visual, SEE BETA in your mind or on a piece of paper to create the association.

If alone, read the instructions.  Then close your eyes, relax, and follow them.

If in a group have someone read them for everyone.

Imagine sitting at the table eating your favorite food.

Taste and smell the delicious food.

Practice using the Power Words, BETA and ALPHA, to move the waves of your brain back and forth along the scale.

 

Spend the week playing around with your brain waves.  Notice the differences when you make love, watch a movie, listen to music, dance, draw a picture, etc.

 

Best to always return to BETA when you finish exploring.  You don't want to get run over, mugged, or sent to the funny farm.  And for sure don't go ALPHA when you need to attend to the world around you.  Like, go full BETA when you drive a car.

If in a group take turns reading the script.  You'll soon become familiar with the best cadence and pacing.  The relaxation instructions will move you to ALPHA.  Candle light in a darkened room facilitates the shift for many.

 

If alone, relax and go ALPHA and have the experience as you read the script.  There is creative reading as well as creative writing.  Or, read all the way through the script.  Then go back to the beginning and become more and more peaceful and relaxed as you read the relaxation instructions.  Then when you come to the beginning of the adventure, close your eyes, go ALPHA, and flow with the experience.

Come to the tea house as often as you like.  Visit with family, friends, and interesting strangers.   Or perhaps you would just like moments alone, sitting by the lily pond, watching birds skim the water---enjoying the refreshing tea and delicious cookies.

You walk through the gate onto a pebble path, into a Japanese garden.

 

Past Pine and Cedar,

 

Bushes and flowers.

 

On a pebble path

past a small waterfall

sounds of splashing water.

 

Squirrels run back and forth.

 

Birds fly through the air.

 

 

To a tea house on a lily pond.

Golden lanterns hang from the eves.

Slowly swinging back and forth in the gentle breeze.

 

So beautiful.

 

A young girl greets you.

“We welcome you to The House of Golden Lanterns."

 

She takes you to a table overlooking the lily pond.

Bows and leaves as you sit down.

 

Ducks swim among the water lilies.

 

Birds fly back and forth across the pond, skimming the water for bugs.

 

 

The young girl returns bringing tea and cookies.

“The tea and cookies are very special and will deeply rejuvenate your mind and deeply rejuvenate your body.”

 

You eat the nourishing cookies and drink the refreshing tea.

 

She will bring more whenever you like.

 

Ducks swim by.  Birds skim the water.

 

So peaceful and beautiful.

 

 

Perhaps a friend or an interesting stranger will come and join you.

Perhaps a member of your family.

Or perhaps you prefer a quiet time alone, sitting by the lily pond.

Open and Receptive.

 

 

 

 

It is almost time to come back.

 

Back to the here and now.

MIND-MELD PEOPLE

Sit in a public place, like on a park bench.  Pick a person waking past, or sitting nearby.

 

Go BETA and observe and analyze.

 

Move toward ALPHA and mind-meld.  Experience their uniqueness, aliveness and what they are feeling and thinking.

 

Go back to BETA and pick another person.

 

Go back and forth a few times with different people.

 

If you notice people looking at you strangely, smile and wave.

 

Best go full BETA when finished.

We were both surprised how easy this is.  Then we tried it on each other.  Didn’t work.  Why not?

I could feel the different people, but couldn’t throw my consciousness and become them.  Need practice.

 

Ok.  Took four tries in four days.  Betty only took two.  I was shocked when it happened.  Like a flash and I was them.  And flashed right back to me because it feels like I was invading them.  Don’t want to do that.  Betty didn’t seem to care.  She liked invading the males more than the females.  Said they were easier, and kind of dense.  The females were more guarded.

MIND MELD NATURE

 

Go to the woods, mountains, city park, wherever.  Go Zen and pick something that attracts you, maybe a rock, squirrel, tree, mushroom, anything.

 

Or stay home and pick the flower on the kitchen table, or your cat sunning by the window.

 

Go BETA and observe and analyze.

 

Go ALPHA and mind-meld.

Open and Receptive.

 

 

 

 

Go full BETA when finished.

 

Whether what you find is valid is debatable, but what is not debatable is the fun and expansion of consciousness.  You might even learn something about the nature of Reality.

 

Spend the week occasionally communing with nature, but probably best not to let those around you know what you’re doing.

 

If you start getting funny looks go full BETA.

Easy again.  Everything is so different.  We just look at the surface.  So much underneath.

Oh much easier than humans.  Betty and I had so much fun.  Tossing and throwing our consciousness all over the place.  Even into rocks.  Rocks are so quiet and slow...like everything is very, very slow motion.  Peaceful and so calm.
